I believe this picture was taken in the Camp Pelham Chapel
in South Korea sometime between 1963 to 1965. On the left is Julie
Henning , now a schoolteacher in Pennsylvania, but back then an Amerasian
girl being raised in a Korean Orphanage. On the right is one of her
friends from the orphanage. In the center is a young GI who befriended
Julie. He brought her to Sunday services, took her to see her
first movie at the Camp Theatre, and sometimes took her to the Snack Bar
for treats. Julie can't remember his name. The robe makes it
likely he was either a Chaplain or Chaplain's Assistant. I believe
he appears way too young to have been the Chaplain, but anything's possible.
Julie would very much like to find this gentleman's name and,
if he's still alive, to try and see him again. So, if you were stationed
at Camp Pelham in that time frame, or in one of the nearby posts that were
served by their Chaplain, please check your old yearbooks and see if he's
in there. Contact me at: jaluck@optonline.net
UPDATE!!
After talking with women who were in the orphanage with Julie back
in the sixties, but were a little older, she has found that Camp Pelham is
NOT where this picture was taken. Instead it was at either Camp Beard
or RC #1, in the village of Yong-Jul-Gol. The GI in the picture was
stationed with the 2d Bn 72d Armor, 2d Inf Div at Camp Beard. This
unit was the 2d Bn 15th Armor of the 1st Cav Div until early July 1965. He
was in Korea from approximately July 1964 to August 1965.
So, does anybody out there recognize him, or have any ideas to help the search?
